Original Title: 七号同学

Synopsis

The summer camp began with a number.

The teacher handed one to each student and told them to find a partner. Qi Xia, holding number seven, met Chen Xifan for the first time.

He wore a black baseball cap, his voice soft and even. A faint smile tugged at his lips. "Found you, Classmate No. 7."

"Can I be your partner?"

Back then, he was a heaven-blessed prodigy, the boy everyone adored, someone she could only look up to from afar. Qi Xia, meanwhile, was merely the most forgettable among the countless girls who liked him.

Her unrequited love was doomed from the start.

Years later, Qi Xia crossed paths with Chen Xifan again. Rain poured over the unfamiliar city, and she was stranded with nowhere to go.

The man curved his lips. "Want me to take you home?"

Later still, they attended a class reunion together. Someone started teasing Chen Xifan, insisting he share the story of his love life.

Helpless, he said, "I really never dated anyone. But there is someone I like."

The room erupted in shock. Everyone wanted to know who.

Chen Xifan turned toward Qi Xia. Their eyes met, and hers began to redden. Her heart still missed a beat.

With a smile playing at the corners of his lips, Chen Xifan spoke slowly. "Our Classmate No. 7."

No one knew that later that night, in a dimly lit hallway, Qi Xia found herself pressed against the wall by him, with nowhere left to retreat.

Chen Xifan's breath was warm against her skin, his voice almost a plea. "Love me again, Classmate No. 7."

"To fall in love with someone from afar is to walk a long road toward a narrow door. I walked that road for so long before realizing that his door had never been open to me.

Chen Xifan, I've finally decided to give up halfway. May your future be bright and your life blessed with every happiness."

After graduation, Qi Xia wrote him this letter and sealed it in a time capsule.

Years later, the time capsule was discovered by chance. After passing through several hands, the letter finally found its way to Chen Xifan.

And from that day on, one line had been added beneath the last:

"You gave up halfway. I'll see this through to the end."

Signed: Chen Xifan

After all these years, her unrequited love had finally found its echo.

    1. Starting next week, I'll post once a day, rotating between the three novels currently ongoing: Sleepless Spring Tide, Little Garden, and Classmate No. 7, in that order. And after I've completed translating an entire series, I'll upload the remaining chapters all at once.
